Know before you go.
-
- Hair should be at least 1/4" long (4 weeks since last wax or 3 weeks since last shave). Hair that’s too short may cause breakage, leaving you with unwanted stubble.
- Take a warm shower and gently exfoliate the skin prior to waxing. This will provide an easier removal of the hair follicles, ensuring smoother results.
- Take a Tylenol 30-45 minutes prior to waxing to help minimize any discomfort.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol immediately before waxing. Stimulants in the system may cause the skin to be extra sensitive.
- Avoid heat related activities like hot yoga, steam rooms and tanning immediately before waxing. Excessive heat may cause the skin to lift.
- Do not wax if you are on any skin sensitive medications that may cause the skin to lift (ie. Accutane or Retin-A).
- Keep in mind, if it's your first time waxing, if you're pregnant, or if you're on your menstrual cycle, your skin may be more sensitive than usual.
-
- You may experience some redness after waxing which is totally normal and usually subsides within 24-48 hours. If it's your first time waxing and/or have coarse hair, you may experience more irritation than usual due to the hair follicles being deeply rooted. Try Calm Down Relief Cream
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing that won't rub against and/or irritate the skin.
- Keep your freshly waxed pores clean for at least 24 hours. Any sweat and/or bacteria that enters the pores may cause an adverse reaction. Be sure to avoid heat related activities (ie. hot yoga, steam rooms, tanning), excessive exercise/sweating, swimming in chlorinated pools, foot soaks (for lower leg waxes).
- Don’t shave or trim. You'll have the urge to pick up the razor, but sticking to regular, consistent waxing will weaken the hair follicles, resulting in slower regrowth that is often softer and more fine.
- Stay on a consistent waxing schedule (ideally, every 5-6 weeks). Hair grows in different cycles, so it’s best to allow enough time for the hair to fully grow out before waxing again. This will ultimately lead to smoother results, for longer.

The key to preventing ingrowns is EXFOLIATING!
Start exfoliating 2 days after your wax and every day thereafter. Exfoliating regularly will remove any dead skin build-up which may be blocking the pores and preventing new hair growth. Try Buff-Stuff Exfoliating Washcloth for a gentle and effective daily exfoliator.
For stubborn ingrown hairs and bumps, use a spot treatment that will work to deeply exfoliate the pores. Try Smooth Roller Ingrown Hair Treatment
It's also important to moisturize daily, to ensure the skin is soft and hairs can break through the skin's surface. For the bikini area, try Balmshell V-Balm
